Millionaires for Humanity は何を求めているのか?

やや旧聞に属する話題ですが、今週月曜日の7月13日にディズニー家の相続人であるアビゲイル・ディズニー女史をはじめとする7か国80人余りの百万長者が、Millionaires for Humanity というサイトを立ち上げて、"Today, we, the undersigned millionaires, ask our governments to raise taxes on people like us. Immediately. Substantially. Permanently." のためステートメントを公表しています。この引用文は第2パラで太字になっています。さらに、第4パラでは、"The problems caused by, and revealed by, Covid-19 can't be solved with charity, no matter how generous. Government leaders must take the responsibility for raising the funds we need and spending them fairly. We can ensure we adequately fund our health systems, schools, and security through a permanent tax increase on the wealthiest people on the planet, people like us." と表明し、新型コロナウィルス感染症(COVID-19)によって引き起こされた問題は慈善団体ではなく、政府のリーダーが責任を持って対応すべき旨を主張しています。まさにその通りだと私も考えます。
私の目が行き届かなかった部分はあるかもしれないものの、日本のメディアでもいくつかのニュースがあり、中でも、Harper's BAZAARのサイトが英語の原文をもっとも忠実に翻訳していたように思います。海外も含めていくつか本件を報道しているメディアへのリンクを示すと以下の通りです。私は英語とスペイン語しか理解しませんので悪しからず。なお、外国メディアの中でも上の方の3機関はまずまず有名で、Hindu BusinessLine もインドの経済紙だろうと想像つくと思いますが、最後の El Cronista はアルゼンチンの経済紙です。私はアルゼンチンの隣国チリの日本大使館で経済アタッシェをしていましたので、少しだけ馴染みがあります。
